Malta has a Mediterranean climate, with mild winters and warm to hot summers. Where is the best place to stay?

Accommodation in Valletta would be best, with Castille Hotel and Osborne Hotel being the closest options. Valletta offers many different solutions for a stay, ranging from 5-star hotels, to boutique hotels, to slightly cheaper hotels, to hostels and AirBnBs. Valletta is small and September is a popular month, so it is recommended to sort out accommodation as soon as possible. Should the Valletta options prove out of budget, do consider looking for accommodation in Floriana, which is attached to Valletta, or even Sliema and Vittoriosa. The latter two are across the water on either side of Valletta, but both have good bus connections and also water ferries, which can be very convenient.

Can I apply to teach?

This year, teacher positions were by invitation only, however, we are considering a different approach for Improvizza! 2023, so follow us on our social media and sign up for our newsletter to be kept informed.

Can I perform?

There was no open call for troupes this year, but participants will have a number of opportunities to perform during the festival. The main one will be by attending a 2-day workshop that ends in a showcase. (Not all workshops will offer this possibility, but most of them do.) There will also be jams on three of the days.

What is the language of the festival?

The main language of the festival is English, but we do welcome other languages and the richness they bring, so do feel free to utilise other languages, should you so wish, and we will embrace you with improvisers’ love!

Is there a beach close to the festival venue?

There is no sandy beach in Valletta, however, Valletta is on a peninsula that is surrounded by water on three sides and the sea is suitable for swimming, although you must remember that Valletta has two harbours on either side, so perhaps the best place to swim would be in the outermost parts. However, other, better swimming destinations can be found only a short bus ride away.

Will there be something for all levels?

The two-day workshops will be offered for all levels except complete beginners who have never done improv before. It is recommended to have done at least one year of improv before signing up for the workshops. However, there is a number of three-hour workshops that are accessible for all, including complete beginners.

Will there be pizza?

Well, Malta is a Mediterranean country and pizza is definitely one of our favourite foods! But it did take us a while to realise that people were thinking that “improvizza” is an amalgam of improv + pizza!!! It’s not! It’s actually the Maltese way of saying “improvise”! It’s the verb in the imperative form of the noun improvizzazzjoni (improvisation)… But well, at some point there will surely be pizza!
