Code of Conduct

Improvizza 2026 – Accountability Statement and Code of Conduct

Our Commitment
Improvizza is an international improvised theatre festival that brings together a community of improvisers to learn, perform, and celebrate creativity. We welcome people from all backgrounds and are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and solidarity with individuals and groups who are socially vulnerable. We affirm our opposition to all forms of discrimination, including racism, xenophobia, homophobia, sexism, transphobia, ageism, classism, ableism, and hate speech or actions that attempt to silence, threaten, or marginalise.

All participants — performers, staff, volunteers, and audience members — are expected to uphold these values by following the behavioural guidelines outlined below.

Expected Behaviour

  • Treat everyone with respect, empathy, and kindness.

  • Support collaboration and encourage others on and off stage.

  • Respect diverse perspectives, experiences, and identities.

  • Avoid language or actions that are threatening, humiliating, or offensive.

Harassment & Discrimination

  • Harassment, bullying, sexual misconduct, or discrimination of any kind is strictly prohibited.

  • This includes unwelcome physical contact, offensive comments, jokes, images, or behaviour targeting someone’s race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability, age, or any other personal characteristic.

  • Performers should be mindful of sensitive content and avoid putting participants or audiences in uncomfortable situations.

Boundaries & Consent

  • Respect personal boundaries at all times. Physical contact on stage or in workshops should only occur with consent.

  • Anyone can decline participation in a scene, exercise, or activity without explanation.

  • Use clear communication to ensure scenes remain safe, respectful, and enjoyable for everyone.

Reporting & Enforcement

  • If you experience or witness behaviour that violates this Code, you are encouraged to report it to the festival organisers immediately. Reports can be made in person or via a confidential email.

  • You may also report concerns to an independent contact. Details of this contact will be shared closer to the festival.

  • All reports will be treated seriously, investigated promptly, and handled confidentially.

  • Violations may result in warnings, removal from activities, or expulsion from the festival. Retaliation against anyone reporting misconduct is strictly prohibited.

Commitment
By participating in Improvizza!, you agree to uphold this Code of Conduct and help maintain a supportive, safe, and creative festival environment.
